Our Story
Pulp Fiction Second Hand Books began with a curious mind, a well-worn passport, and a deep love of stories.
Owner Angela Pereira, born and bred in Murwillumbah, spent her twenties chasing wanderlust across Europe. Along the way, she fell in love with the magic of second-hand bookshops overseas — places full of character, chaos, conversation, and discovery. When she returned home, Angela knew she wanted to bring a little of that magic back to her Northern Rivers hometown.
Thirteen years ago, Angela and her family purchased an old house on Tweed Valley Way. That house would soon transform into Pulp Fiction Second Hand Books — a wall-to-wall, room-by-room bookshop where intuition leads the way and no two visits are ever the same.
Over the years, Pulp Fiction has weathered more than its fair share of challenges. Major floods — including Cyclone Debbie in 2017 and the devastating 2022 floods — tested the resilience of both the shop and the community. Each time, we were lifted back onto our feet by extraordinary support from locals, friends, and fellow book lovers. That spirit of community is woven into the very fabric of Pulp Fiction.
Today, the shop is much more than a bookstore. It’s a community hub — a place to meet, chat, browse, and linger. Pulp Fiction proudly takes part in the Northern Rivers Arts Trail, hosting live music, champagne, and canapés, and is a regular prize sponsor for Poets Out Loud, supporting local voices and creative expression.
Our shelves hold everything from well-loved paperbacks to rare, signed, and collectible editions. But what Angela loves most is the diversity of the community that walks through the door — the familiar faces, the curious newcomers, and the strange and wonderful books that always seem to find their way to us.
Pulp Fiction has been featured in Humans of Lismore, The Echo, Tweed Valley Weekly, and Tweed Valley Times, but its true story lives in the conversations, connections, and discoveries made within its walls.
We’re proud to share our love of literature with our community — and with book lovers far beyond Murwillumbah — one unexpected find at a time.
